Explore the wonders of the Big Island, Hawaii from the comfort of this whimsically designed bed and breakfast.

Quote from  Best Places to Stay in Hawaii  "This is one of the more unusual places to stay I have ever seen...If you want a bit of mystery and imagination in your vacation, and little stories lying in wait around every corner, you'll appreciate it here. It's enchanting, rather like you'd expect a hobbit's house to be."

Vacation adventures begin at the top of a half mile jeep trail where storybook Hobbit House B&B sits in private tranquility on the lush, tropical Mauna Loa mountainside. Sweeping views of orchard and ranch land out to the blue pacific horizon greet the visitor to this Waiohinu village hideaway.

The lodging's interior is full of delightful surprises. Beams are hand hewn, stained glass windows, hand cut and two newly painted murals have been added by local artist, Deb Thompson. One white wall reveals a forested background  in the right light. Ceiling fixtures have been replaced with light-adorned Ohia tree branches which create an atmosphere for celebration.  The beauty of this bed & breakfast cottage  is not just the artistic flair but it's privacy, making it a wonderfully accommodating honeymoon getaway!   Four rooms are privately yours to enjoy. The suite entrance opens to a spacious living room with awe-inspiring views through two sets of uniquely designed windows. The bath has the same great view which can be enjoyed from a soak in the hot tub. Everyone agrees that a great vacation deserves a great night's sleep; the queen bed is comfortably firm, night's comfortably cool and you won't have the noise of traffic to wake you. You also will enjoy the convenience of a full kitchen for preparing picnic lunches and evening meals. Breakfast is served each morning and there are plenty of restaurants in the area if you would rather have someone else prepare lunch and dinner.

Watch humpback whales, dolphins, and endangered sea turtles from the palm studded black sand beaches of Punalu'u. Hike early morning the nature trails of Manuka Refuge seeking elusive glimpses of Hawaii's rare forest songbirds. Carry a picnic lunch to the steep olivine-specked dunes of Hawaii's famous Green Sand Beach. See fisherman hauling catches up the 40'-cliffs or casting throw nets into the swirling surf backwaters. Spend the day in Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. Kayak, snorkel, golf, or just wander the sleepy villages amidst the monkeypod trees so loved by Mark Twain.

Then return to your private "Hobbit House"  B&B for a luxury bath while the soft light of day fades from the valleys below. "Hobbit House" B&B is off the beaten path and environmentally friendly. It is  powered by wind and solar energy. Hot water is supplied by the sun with a paloma instant hot water heater fueled by propane as backup.
